Arsenal Women have secured the services of Dutch international goalkeeper Daphne van Domselaar from Aston Villa.

The 24-year-old shot-stopper, who shone at Euro 2022 and the World Cup 2023, joins the Gunners with a wealth of experience and a reputation for athleticism and shot-stopping ability.

Van Domselaar’s arrival will provide healthy competition for Manuela Zinsberger as Arsenal gear up for an important new season.

Arsenal have signed Daphne van Domselaar, the Netherlands number one who has been brilliant at Euro 2022 and World Cup 2023. She has 27 caps for them.

The 24-year-old joined Aston Villa from FC Twente last summer and signed a three-year contract. The fee is rumoured to be around £200k as per the Guardian’s Tom Garry.

She made 15 appearances for the Villains as her season was cut short by injury. She is a very athletic goalkeeper and an excellent shot-stopper, who will bring competition to Manuela Zinsberger.

Jonas Eidevall said: “We’re delighted to bring Daphne to the club. She is a top goalkeeper and already has considerable experience on some of the biggest stages, while we believe she has a great deal of potential for future development, too. Daphne will further strengthen our goalkeeper unit alongside Manu and Naomi, and will be a strong addition to the team as we prepare for an important new season.”

Daphne said: “I’m really happy to be here, if you look at Arsenal – the players, the team, the stadium – it’s a huge club and I’m so excited to be part of this club. I want to win trophies and achieve big things, and Arsenal is the right place for me to do both. I can’t wait to play at Emirates Stadium in front of all the supporters and show what I can do.”

Daphne will wear the number 14 shirt that was previously worn by goalkeeper, Sabrina D’Angelo.
