Arsenal could make as many as five goalkeeper signings this summer in a dramatic overhaul of the position, according to a report.

Arsenal have been linked with quite a few goalkeepers in recent weeks, including Joan Garcia of Espanyol, Dan Bentley of Wolves, and Tommy Setford of Ajax, raising questions over which links are genuine.

According to James McNicholas of The Athletic, the answer is all three of them.

In an ideal world, Arsenal would like to bring in Garcia, Bentley, and Setford this summer, on top of the signings they’ve already made in David Raya and Lucas Nygaard.

To explain why Arsenal might sign five goalkeepers in one transfer window, the plan is for Raya to act as the first-choice keeper, with Garcia second, and Bentley third.

Nygaard and Setford would then join the Arsenal u21s, with Karl Hein moving out on loan.

The move for Garcia isn’t expected to go ahead unless Aaron Ramsdale leaves, so if the England international sticks around, that will take at least one of the five signings off the table.

If Ramsdale does go, Arsenal are hoping to bring Garcia in for considerably less than his €25m buyout clause, and perhaps even less than €15m.

Arsenal let a lot of young goalkeepers run down their contracts this summer, with Arthur Okonkwo, James Hillson, Ovie Ejeheri, Hubert Graczyk, and Noah Cooper all leaving.

With Hein likely going on loan as well, and Ramsdale potentially leaving, that would be seven goalkeepers out the door.

In that context, signing five wouldn’t be quite so strange.
