Alexis Sanchez is a free agent this summer, following the expiry of his contract with Inter Milan, and L’Equipe (via GFFN) report that he’s now in talks to return to former club Marseille on a free transfer.

Roberto De Zerbi has already spoken with the player about the move, and Sanchez’s camp are interested in the possibility of a return.

On the other hand, there are financial obstacles to a deal. Sanchez had initially left Marseille for Inter Milan due to the fact the club couldn’t afford both his and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s wages. Aubameyang has now left the club and agreed to move to Saudi Arabia.

In terms of other options this summer, another one of Sanchez’s former clubs are reportedly interested – Serie A side Udinese.

Sanchez spent one year with Marseille in 2022/23, playing 44 times and scoring 18 goals.

The Chile international played for Udinese much earlier on, spending three seasons with the club between 2008 and 2011. He scored 21 goals and assisted 20 in 112 games for them.

Between those two spells, Sanchez spent three-and-a-half seasons with Arsenal, winning two FA Cups before leaving for a trophyless stretch with Manchester United.

Most recently, he scored four goals and assisted five in 33 games for Inter Milan in 2023/24.
