The midfielder in question is Thomas Partey and, according to reports, Arsenal are ready to cash in on the former Atletico Madrid man.
The hardworking Ghanaian has had a rather stop-start season for the Gunners, largely spending too much time on the treatment table and watching the tea’s evolution from the bench. Minutes have been limited for a player who many regarded as one of the best in his position last season. Now, though, with the likes of Declan Rice stepping into his shoes, Partey appears to be surplus to requirements at the club and is heading for the exit door come the end of the season.
While many Gunners will be sad to see the back of Thomas Partey, a departure from North London is probably the best outcome for all parties. Partey deserves more game time elsewhere, the club can get his lucrative wages off their books, and the Gunners can look to bring in a more reliable replacement who is ready to deputise when the likes of the aforementioned Declan Rice needs a rest. It makes sense.
Likewise, Mikel Arteta is always looking at the next player to take his maturing side up another level or two. Such a key area in the pitch requires modification, particularly if the team is to close the gap with Europe’s elite and improve their chances of consistent silverware moving forward. While current Premier League odds show the Gunners are priced at 9/4 to win the title, it’s a team that still requires minor surgery, particularly should the likes of Partey leave the club.

Aston Villa’s Douglas Luiz is a long-term target
If you’re a betting man, then backing the club to finally pull off a deal for Douglas Luiz appears to be a safer bet than most. One of Aston Villa’s most consistent performers this season, the Brazilian midfielder has been a long-term target for the club. Although the project under Unai Emery is an exciting one, Luiz will undoubtedly be keen on a move to the capital. Villa are reportedly reluctant to sell off their most important players, though, meaning that Arsenal could be forced to look elsewhere. Still, should the Gunners launch a serious bid for the tidy midfield player, then Douglas Luiz could force a move and join a club he’s clearly keen on.

The former Lyon man has been turning it on for both club and country for a while now, resulting in a number of admiring glances from some of the biggest clubs in Europe. Arsenal are reportedly one of them, although the Brazil international has reportedly just purchased a new house in the North East and looks set to stay at St James’ Park for next season.

If Arsenal are after proven quality – which appears to be the case – then Aurelien Tchouameni definitely fits the bill.
