Arsenal are continually evolving under Mikel Arteta. The bar has been raised every season and notable improvements are occurring at a steady pace. The next change appears to be on the horizon, with a former midfield favourite looking likely to depart the club in the summer. The midfielder in question is Thomas Partey and, according to reports, Arsenal are ready to cash in on the former Atletico Madrid man.

The hardworking Ghanaian has had a rather stop-start season for the Gunners, largely spending too much time on the treatment table and watching the tea’s evolution from the bench. Minutes have been limited for a player who many regarded as one of the best in his position last season. Now, though, with the likes of Declan Rice stepping into his shoes, Partey appears to be surplus to requirements at the club and is heading for the exit door come the end of the season.

While many Gunners will be sad to see the back of Thomas Partey, a departure from North London is probably the best outcome for all parties. Partey deserves more game time elsewhere, the club can get his lucrative wages off their books, and the Gunners can look to bring in a more reliable replacement who is ready to deputise when the likes of the aforementioned Declan Rice needs a rest. It makes sense.

Likewise, Mikel Arteta is always looking at the next player to take his maturing side up another level or two. Such a key area in the pitch requires modification, particularly if the team is to close the gap with Europe’s elite and improve their chances of consistent silverware moving forward. While current Premier League odds show the Gunners are priced at 9/4 to win the title, it’s a team that still requires minor surgery, particularly should the likes of Partey leave the club.

So, with a number of options seemingly on the table, let’s look at a selection of potential Thomas Partey replacements for Arsenal.

The club has been heavily linked with Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi

If you’re shining for Mikel Arteta’s hometown club, Real Sociedad, then there’s a chance the Spanish manager is aware of it. Martin Zubimendi has been doing exactly that, with the Spanish midfield general reportedly on the club’s radar. Although he remains under contract with La Real until 2027 and has recently suggested he has no desire to leave his local club, a move to the biggest and best league in the world would surely be tempting for Zubimendi. Arsenal could certainly test Real Sociedad’s resolve in the summer months.

Aston Villa’s Douglas Luiz is a long-term target

If you’re a betting man, then backing the club to finally pull off a deal for Douglas Luiz appears to be a safer bet than most. One of Aston Villa’s most consistent performers this season, the Brazilian midfielder has been a long-term target for the club. Although the project under Unai Emery is an exciting one, Luiz will undoubtedly be keen on a move to the capital. Villa are reportedly reluctant to sell off their most important players, though, meaning that Arsenal could be forced to look elsewhere. Still, should the Gunners launch a serious bid for the tidy midfield player, then Douglas Luiz could force a move and join a club he’s clearly keen on.

Bruno Guimaraes is apparently under consideration

According to numerous reports, Arsenal are one of many clubs considering making a move for an integral figure at Newcastle United in the shape of Bruno Guimaraes. The former Lyon man has been turning it on for both club and country for a while now, resulting in a number of admiring glances from some of the biggest clubs in Europe. Arsenal are reportedly one of them, although the Brazil international has reportedly just purchased a new house in the North East and looks set to stay at St James’ Park for next season.

Aurelien Tchouameni is another option

If Arsenal are after proven quality – which appears to be the case – then Aurelien Tchouameni definitely fits the bill. According to some reports, the Real Madrid man is Arsenal’s number one target in the summer window, with his potential acquisition likely to send shockwaves around Europe given his immense potential. Although Aurelien Tchouameni still has a role to play at arguably the most prestigious club on the planet, the Frenchman might desire to play more regularly. A move to the Emirates could certainly appeal to the talented 24-year-old and would represent a fantastic piece of business for the Gunners.

A move for Everton’s Amadou Onana could be on the cards

An interesting rumour that has recently been making the rounds is that Arsenal could look to tempt Amadou Onana away from Goodison Park. As stated by his agent, in January, the Belgian International rejected the opportunity to move away from Everton and Arsenal were apparently the club keen on snapping him up. Speaking recently, the player’s agent and sister, Melissa Onana, said: “We could have left this winter, but we once again sat down and asked whether it was the right time or if the player was ready. My job is to put opportunities on the table. In the end, he’s the one who makes the choice because it’s his life and his career.” Could Arsenal attempt to turn Amadou Onana’s head once again in the near future? Absolutely.

Quinten Timber is standing out at Feyenoord

Should Arsenal opt to obtain a rising star instead of an established professional, then Feyenoord’s Quinten Timber could pique their interest. The brother of Jurrien Timber, the 22-year-old is one of the brightest sparks in Dutch football right now after shining for the Dutch giants and showcasing his credentials for a big move in the near future. Alongside the likes of Manchester United and Liverpool, Arsenal have reportedly been impressed by his showings this campaign.
