Rangers are interested in signing Reuell Walters this summer, with the player confirming his Arsenal departure despite the club reporting that an offer remains on the table.

Arsenal’s Reuell Walters is garnering plenty of transfer speculation at the moment, and that’s only increased in the last couple of weeks.

First, Walters appeared to officially announce his departure with a post on social media, writing: “Thank you to everyone that’s made this part of my career special.

“It’s been a pleasure playing for this club and I wish you all the best for the future.”

Arsenal then cast some doubt on the situation, including Walters on their list of players for whom contract negotiations are still ongoing.

But it’s possible Arsenal are simply hoping to ensure they receive compensation for Walters’ transfer.

If an EU/EEA club sign Walters this summer, they’ll have to pay Arsenal training compensation on the basis that the Gunners have offered the u21 player a contract, per FIFA rules. Without the contract offer, that compensation would be subject to dispute.

Regardless of Walters’ exact situation, other clubs are circling, with The Scotsman reporting that Rangers are interested in signing the defender this summer.

Rangers will face strong competition from clubs in France and Germany, according to the report, which again explains why Arsenal would be so keen to ensure they fit within the training compensation parameters for those regions.

Walters joined the Arsenal academy in 2020, spending a little under four years with the Gunners. In his final campaign, he made 23 youth appearances, and he featured on the senior bench 11 times.

The 19-year-old played for Mikel Arteta in pre-season friendlies, but never in a competitive fixture, and he’ll now look to make his official senior debut elsewhere.
