Arsenal‘s hopes of signing Barcelona star Mariona Caldentey remain “on track” according to reports from El País, despite the Catalan club’s recent historic quadruple win. Caldentey, whose contract with Barcelona expires on 30 June, has been heavily linked with a move to the Women’s Super League, with Arsenal emerging as the frontrunner.

The 28-year-old forward has been instrumental in Barcelona‘s recent dominance, contributing 17 assists and 19 goals this season alone. Her departure would be a significant loss for the Spanish champions, but the lure of new challenges and a competitive environment in the WSL seems to be a decisive factor in her decision.

Arsenal, eager to strengthen their attacking options after releasing Vivianne Miedema, view Caldentey as a key addition to their squad. Her technical ability, vision, and goalscoring prowess would undoubtedly elevate the Gunners’ ambitions for domestic and European silverware.

While Caldentey‘s decision is not yet final, the prospect of her lining up alongside Arsenal‘s current attacking talents, including Stina Blackstenius, Alessia Russo, and Beth Mead, is an exciting one for Gunners fans.

The potential move signifies Arsenal‘s intent to compete at the highest level and further solidifies the WSL’s status as a top destination for world-class female footballers.
