Gabriel Magalhaes does not appear to be seriously injured ahead of his participation at Copa America with Brazil, despite recent pictures showing his arm in a sling.
Arsenal defender Gabriel Magalhaes played 50 times for the Gunners in 2023/24, but his season isn’t over yet, as he’d been called up by Brazil ahead of their summer appearance at Copa America.
The 26-year-old’s involvement at the tournament seemed to be in doubt after he was withdrawn early in Arsenal’s final Premier League fixture against Everton due to injury.
Yet reports from Brazil have been largely positive, despite pictures showing the player wearing a sling.
Globe Esporte report that Arsenal doctor Zafar Iqbal immediately informed Brazil doctor Rodrigo Lasmar that it wasn’t a serious injury.
Tests in London ruled out a more serious problem and suggested only a mild dislocation, with Gabriel instructed to wear a sling for a couple of weeks to protect the area.
Gabriel went off on holiday in Sao Paulo, and he showed satisfactory progress during his time off. At the beginning of this week, he started training again without the sling and didn’t show any ill effects.
Sources close to the player assure GE that the sling was just a precaution, and nothing to worry about.
By the sounds of things, Gabriel will be ready to play matches again easily in advance of Brazil’s first game at Copa America on June 24th (June 25th at 02:00 BST in the UK).
But we’ll get our first official sign of exactly where the defender is in his recovery when Brazil play a friendly against Mexico next weekend.
