Paris Saint-Germain will not be in the race for Newcastle United’s Bruno Guimaraes this summer, according to a report.
The Daily Mail report that Paris Saint-Germain don’t want to sign Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle United, with sources emphatic that it isn’t a deal for them.
Guimaraes has a £100m release clause in his contract, so it’s hypothetically possible that Newcastle might have no say in his future.
But the Mail report that PSG don’t see value in the clause, and the suggestion is that no club does. The clause expires on June 30th, and Newcastle hope that the speculation around his future will end then.
PSG withdrawing from the race seemingly gives a boost to Arsenal, who have also been linked with the midfielder.
David Ornstein recently reported that Arsenal really like Guimaraes as a potential summer signing, specifically if they decide to sign a ‘6’.
Guimaraes can also play as an ‘8’, but Arsenal see him more in the 6 role, as do Newcastle. If Arsenal’s midfield transfer business instead focuses on signing an 8, with Rice playing a deeper role, the Gunners would be less likely to pursue the Newcastle man.
Before that, Sam Dean of The Telegraph had claimed that both Arsenal and Manchester City have made Guimaraes aware of their interest in him ahead of the summer transfer window.
But Dean added that the interested clubs were hoping to pay less than the release clause.
Arsenal were reportedly genuinely interested in signing Guimaraes even before he joined Newcastle United.
Various sources claimed in 2022 that whilst the club never made a formal offer, they did like the player, they just preferred other targets at the time.
The midfielder has made 47 appearances for Newcastle this season, scoring six goals and assisting eight, as well as picking up 14 yellow cards.
