Former Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Frimpong is embroiled in a legal battle with his tenants.

Reiane McGregor alleges Frimpong attempted to force her and her mother out of their home through intimidation, harassment, and potentially fraudulent eviction procedures. The court will now examine the validity of documents central to the eviction case.

Emmanuel Frimpong, the former Arsenal midfielder, appeared in Edmonton County Court on Wednesday facing accusations of attempting to force his tenants out of their rented home. His tenant, Reiane McGregor, detailed several allegations against Frimpong, including intrusive behaviour and attempts to prematurely end their lease.

Allegations against Frimpong

McGregor, who resides in the property with her mother, claims Frimpong made their lives “hell”. Reportedly, this included peeking through their living room blinds and moving into the property with his family under the pretence of a short stay, which was then extended. It’s alleged that Frimpong’s behaviour became increasingly aggressive.

Frimpong reportedly filed an “accelerated possession” claim to evict McGregor and her mother. McGregor disputes the validity of this claim and alleges Frimpong provided falsified documents in support of it.

Case developments

A future hearing will determine the authenticity of the disputed documents. Deputy District Judge Elizabeth Boon acknowledged that if it’s proven McGregor was not provided with valid energy performance and gas safety certificates, the eviction notice would be invalid.

Frimpong is primarily known for his time at Arsenal, where he rose through the youth ranks, joining the club aged nine. His senior career was hampered by injuries and he eventually retired in 2019, aged just 27, after spells in Russia, Sweden and Cyprus.

He made 16 appearances for the Arsenal first team, with one assist, but is largely remembered for his confrontation with Samir Nasri after the midfielder left the club to join Manchester City.
