Fabrizio Romano reported this week that Arsenal are in negotiations with Chido Martin Obi’s new agents Elite Project Group over a new contract for the youngster.

Arsenal are still pushing to agree terms with the striker, who hasn’t yet signed his scholarship contract with the club.

Premier League rules prevent a player from officially signing scholarship terms until July 1st of the school year in which they turn 16. For Martin Obi, that’s July 1st, 2024.

As it stands, that means Martin Obi would be out of contract in the summer, with the likes of Bayern Munich circling to try and snap him up.

In the meantime, Martin Obi has been focusing on his football, scoring his 30th, 31st, and 32nd goal of the u18 Premier League campaign on Saturday with a hat-trick against Chelsea.

The striker’s goals effectively secured him the top-scorer award for 2023/24, 11 goals ahead of his nearest competitor, but he’ll have to wait a bit longer for the final fixtures to be played.

Martin Obi already has the club record for most goals in an u18 Premier League season, and Andy Kelly reports that he’s now just the fourth player to score 30+ goals in a youth team league season.

The striker’s 32 goals in 18 games puts him just behind former young Gunners David Barrett (36 goals in 21, 1956/57), Kevin Campbell (36 goals in 22 games, 1987/88), and Paul Read (33 goals in 21 games, 1991/92).

Martin Obi will now head off on international duty, having been included in the Denmark squad for the 2024 u17 European Championships.

Denmark are in Group B of the tournament, along with Austria, Croatia, and Wales.

They’ll face Wales on Monday, May 20th, Croatia on Thursday, May 23rd, and Austria on Sunday, May 26th. All three games are at 16:00 BST.

Arsenal would have hoped for a resolution to Martin Obi’s contract situation before the event, but it looks like that might now have to wait.
