Albert Sambi Lokonga has again confirmed that his time at Arsenal is coming to an end and he plans to leave the club this summer.
For the second time in a matter of days, Arsenal midfielder Albert Sambi Lokonga has confirmed that he plans to leave the club this summer, following internal conversations.
“I think that [my time at Arsenal] is slowly coming to the end,” Lokonga told Belgian outlet VOOsport (via Chris Wheatley).
“I had a discussion with the club and what was said is that the best solution for me was to leave. I have a one-year contract plus a one-year option, so now it’s up to the club and my agent to find the best solution.”
Lokonga had previously told BBC radio that his talks with Arsenal had confirmed that “the best thing for me was to leave the club”.
The midfielder spent the season out on loan with Luton Town, playing 19 times amid a couple of injury setbacks.
Despite those spells out through injury, Lokonga was back in the team by the end of the season, making five consecutive starts in the final month and putting in some strong performances.
Fabrizio Romano reports for his Daily Briefing that Arsenal are open to both loan and permanent offers for Lokonga this summer, based on the fee and the player’s own preference.
Arsenal want to sign a new midfielder this summer, with a number of players already in Lokonga’s position, so the Belgian international is expected to make way.
