Arsenal’s impressive title push has been fuelled in large part by the outstanding performances of midfielders Martin Odegaard and Declan Rice.
Their contributions have earned them well-deserved nominations for the prestigious Premier League Player of the Year award.
Arsenal midfielders Martin Odegaard and Declan Rice have been nominated for the 2023/24 Premier League Player of the Year award, sponsored by EA Sports
This comes after both players enjoyed stellar seasons, driving Arsenal‘s title challenge with their performances.
Odegaard’s captaincy role
Martin Odegaard, now in his second season as Arsenal captain, continues to lead by example. The 25-year-old boasts eight goals and eight assists in 33 league appearances. He’s a key figure in Arsenal’s midfield, orchestrating attacks while also spearheading their high-pressing approach.
Rice’s seamless integration
Declan Rice has settled seamlessly into life at Arsenal following his summer transfer from West Ham. The 25-year-old has achieved career-highs with seven goals and nine assists, demonstrating his ability to connect the Gunners’ defence and attack. Rice has also shown a knack for late winners, netting crucial goals against Manchester United and Luton Town.
A competitive field
Odegaard and Rice face stiff competition from a strong shortlist. The current holder, Erling Haaland (Manchester City), is nominated again alongside his teammate Phil Foden. Other contenders include Alexander Isak (Newcastle), Cole Palmer (Chelsea), Ollie Watkins (Aston Villa), and, laughably, Virgil van Dijk (Liverpool).
Fan vote opens
Fans can now vote for their Player of the Year, with their votes combined with those of a panel of experts to determine the winner. Voting closes midday on Monday, May 13th.
Eight players are in the running, but only one will be crowned the Premier League’s best performer in 2023/24. Will an Arsenal midfielder claim the top prize? Probably not, the pundits seem already determined to give it to Phil Foden, but you can cast your vote and hope.
