The Premier League have announced their u21 Goal of the Season nominees for 2023/24, and Arsenal’s Ethan Nwaneri features on the shortlist.

Nwaneri was nominated for his goal in Arsenal’s September Premier League 2 win over Reading, opening the scoring in the 3-0 victory.

Myles Lewis-Skelly lifted a through ball over the top, spotting Nwaneri’s run, and the midfielder leapt up to dink a volley over the stranded goalkeeper.

It was an audacious finish, and one that earned it’s spot among this season’s nominees.

The other four nominees are Tyrique George of Chelsea, Nico O’Reilly of Manchester City, Shola Shoretire of Manchester United, and Yago De Santiago Alonso of Tottenham Hotspur.

The Premier League haven’t given any indication of a fan vote for the overall winner, so that’s presumably something they’ll determine themselves.

Nwaneri scored 18 goals in 20 games for the Arsenal youth teams this season, on top of four assists.

The 17-year-old is currently away with the England u17s, where his two goals in three games have helped his team into the European Championship quarter-finals. England will face Italy at the quarter-final stage.

Arsenal’s Chido Martin Obi is also at the tournament with Denmark, preparing to face the Czech Republic in the quarter-finals after scoring once in the group stage.
