Arsenal and Jorginho are confident of a positive resolution to his contract situation, and links with a Juventus move have been played down.

Fabrizio Romano reports in his Daily Briefing that Arsenal and Jorginho are in advanced talks over a new contract for the midfielder, with conversations going well and Jorginho happy at the club.

As it stands, Romano claims both parties are confident that he’ll extend his stay in north London.

The journalist adds that contrary to recent speculation, he’s not aware of any contact between Jorginho and Juventus.

“I would love to keep him,” Arteta said on Friday. “He knows that. The club is fully supportive of that. He makes us better so we want him to stay.”

Jorginho’s current contract expires at the end of the season, and though it was previously believed that Arsenal had an option to extend the deal, Mark Mann-Bryans reported this week that the option expired due to his appearance count since joining.

David Ornstein reported on Tuesday that Arsenal had made a new offer to Jorginho, with the player expected to sign it.

Mann-Bryans suggests this will either be a one-year contract with an option to extend by a further year, or a straight two-year deal, but it’s almost certain to be more than just a 12-month contract overall.

Jorginho has made 35 appearances for Arsenal this season, including 19 starts. The Italian international likely would have played more if not for a persistent injury issue affecting his availability.

“We’re in no hurry,” Jorginho’s agent Joao Santos said recently in an interview with the Italian media.

“If [Arsenal] were to call us in a month or two to discuss the renewal, that’s fine with us.”

A couple of weeks later, it seems Arsenal are now making their move to secure Jorginho’s future.
