Former Arsenal striker Chuba Akpom could be set for a return to the Premier League, with Nottingham Forest and Fulham interested.
Arsenal academy graduate Chuba Akpom is currently playing his football over in the Netherlands, where he has 15 goals and a couple of assists in 34 appearances (nine starts) this season.
The 28-year-old is averaging a goal or assist every 80 minutes on the pitch, making the most of every opportunity he gets, and Premier League clubs are taking notice.
All Nigeria Soccer confirm that Nottingham Forest and Fulham are both interested in the forward, with the player himself discussing his future this week.
“I don’t know yet what the club wants,” Akpom told ESPN (via ANS). “I just want to have fun and play football, it doesn’t matter where.
“We have two more games to play and then we will see what will happen.
“I cannot predict the future. The most important thing is that I enjoy it. Whether I start or have to come from the bench, I do what I have to do.”
Given Akpom’s strong performances in limited minutes, it’s fair to say he could make a good case that he should either play more regularly for Ajax next season or be sold.
For a player in his prime footballing years, six league starts by May isn’t enough, particularly if that player has scored 11 league goals.
Akpom was back in the starting lineup against FC Volendam at the weekend, for the first time since March, scoring once and assisting another goal in a 4-1 win.
But if Nottingham Forest and Fulham come calling in the summer, you’d have to imagine Akpom will want to hear them out.
