Sam Dean of The Telegraph reports that Arsenal’s Jurrien Timber is currently travelling with the Arsenal u21 squad for their match against Blackburn Rovers on Monday night, a major step in his recovery from an ACL injury.

Mikel Arteta had confirmed over the weekend that Timber would play an u21 match before having any first-team involvement, and Arsenal then reported that the defender would specifically be involved in the Blackburn game.

But with a serious long-term injury, there’s always the potential for plans to change at the last minute, so it’s good to have the confirmation that Timber is on his way to Ewood Park.

The game is on Monday, April 22nd at 19:00 BST, and it will be available to stream on Arsenal.com. The full details of the stream can be found here.

Timber joined Arsenal in the summer transfer window, featuring throughout pre-season before starting against Manchester City in the Community Shield and Nottingham Forest on the opening day of the Premier League campaign.

But his time in Arteta’s starting lineup was short-lived, as an anterior cruciate ligament injury ruled the defender out for most of the season.

Despite plenty of claims that Timber would return ahead of schedule, the reality is that he seems to be following a normal timeline for a return, making his on-field comeback over eight months after his injury.

It will be a while longer until the 22-year-old is back to his best, so it’s unlikely he’ll have a significant part to play in the first-team’s final five games of the season.

But a player of Timber’s quality should be worth the wait, and he’ll add a lot to the Arsenal squad for next season.
