Arsenal play Unai Emery‘s Aston Villa next weekend and they will arrive in London without one of their key players who picked up his 10th Premier League yellow card on Saturday.

After Arsenal play Bayern Munich in their Champions League quarter-final first leg, attention will return to the Premier League and the arrival of Aston Villa.

With Unai Emery‘s men still chasing down fourth in the Premier League and a Champions League spot, they will present a challenge, albeit a slightly weaker one after Douglas Luiz‘s 10th yellow of the season against Brentford.

With 97 minutes on the clock and the game almost over, Luiz picked up a late yellow which will now rule him out of the game against Arsenal at the Emirates and the match against Bournemouth that follows.

The Premier League rules state that you will receive:

  • A one-game ban if you pick up five yellow cards up to and including your club’s 19th Premier League match of the season.
  • A two-game ban if you pick up 10 yellow cards up to and including your club’s 32nd Premier League match of the season.
  • A three-game ban if you pick up 15 yellow cards up to and including your club’s final match of the season.

This was Aston Villa’s 32nd match.

You can see which Arsenal players are close to a suspension here.

Luiz has nine goals and five assists in the Premier League this season and a record of three wins and four defeats in seven games against Arsenal. He has scored one goal against the Gunners, which came in Villas 2-1 defeat at the Emirates last season. He has no assists against Arsenal and four yellow cards.

Arsenal play Aston Villa at 4.30pm on Sunday 14 April, by which point Man City will have played Luton and Liverpool will have faced Palace.
