Former Manchester United, PSG, and Real Madrid defender Gabriel Heinze is reportedly considering a move to Arsenal to join Mikel Arteta’s coaching staff.

ESPN Argentina’s Leandro Alves reported on Sunday that Heinze was in London at the weekend to consider a move, though at the time he also had a head coach offer from Argentinian side San Lorenzo.

Since then, Alves reports that Heinze has rejected San Lorenzo, seemingly leaving Arsenal as the frontrunners.

Fabrizio Romano reports in his Daily Briefing that Heinze has a very good relationship with some member’s of Arteta’s staff, but nothing is decided yet.

Despite reportedly rejecting San Lorenzo, Romano suggests Heinze may yet still opt to pursue a head coach job over becoming Arteta’s assistant.

Heinze garnered plenty of experience during his playing career, playing for European clubs Valladolid, Sporting CP, PSG, Manchester United, Real Madrid, Marseille, and AS Roma, as well as Argentine side Newell’s Old Boys.

The former defender was an Argentina international, making 71 appearances for the national team, and he’s gone on to manage 194 matches between five different teams, winning the Argentinian second division with Argentinos Juniors.

Though he spent most of his playing career in Europe, Heinze is yet to coach in the continent, so this could be his first opportunity.
