Arsenal midfielder Frida Maanum‘s well-being remains the primary concern following her collapse during Sunday’s dramatic Continental Cup final win over Chelsea. While initial reports are positive, Maanum’s participation in upcoming Norway national team games is in doubt.

The 24-year-old midfielder fell to the ground in the 95th minute of the final at Molineux Stadium. Medical personnel rushed onto the pitch to attend to Maanum, who received oxygen during a tense nine-minute stoppage in play. Thankfully, early reports indicated Maanum was responsive and talking after the game, even traveling back to London with her Arsenal teammates.

Despite the positive initial signs, Maanum’s involvement in Norway’s opening Euro 2025 qualifiers this week against Finland and the Netherlands is in doubt. Norway coach Gemma Grainger expressed her concern, stating, “We are very saddened by the news about Frida. Our department is in dialogue with Arsenal and we will follow up closely. We send her our warmest thoughts and wishes.”

Maanum’s mother, Liz-Heidi Leonardsen, offered reassurance in a statement to Norwegian newspaper VG, revealing her daughter is “doing well” but remains under close observation by Arsenal‘s medical staff. The cause of the collapse is yet to be determined.

Following the dramatic incident, Arsenal manager Jonas Eidevall prioritised Maanum’s well-being over the game itself. “I just checked in with her, how she is doing and telling her that we won and understanding a little bit about the next steps, but I don’t have any medical update,” Eidevall explained. He added, “Frida is going to travel back with the team and after that we will provide an update.”

The incident understandably caused concern among Maanum’s teammates. Arsenal left-back Katie McCabe was among the first to react, calling for medical assistance. After the game, forward Alessia Russo, who replaced Maanum, offered her support: “It’s devastating to see one of your teammates go down like that. We’re all wishing and praying that she’s OK.”
