Bradley Ibrahim, a former star in Arsenal’s youth setup, is finding life in the German Bundesliga to be challenging.

According to reports in Bild, the 19-year-old midfielder has struggled since joining Hertha Berlin in January and has yet to make an appearance for their first team.

Hertha Berlin manager Pol Dardai had expressed high hopes for Ibrahim, but the youngster is reportedly experiencing difficulties with the fundamentals of the game. Criticisms levelled at Ibrahim, according to Bild, include “holding the ball too long” and making “unnecessary tackles.”

His performances with the U23s in Germany’s fourth tier, where he has made seven appearances but has been missing from the squad entirely for the last three games, have highlighted a perceived lack of pace and physicality. Ibrahim has been urged to address these aspects of his game if he wants to make it to Hertha‘s senior side.

This situation echoes some of the concerns Arsenal reportedly had before Ibrahim‘s departure, leading to his limited appearances for the Gunners’ first team.

Ibrahim joined Arsenal‘s academy in 2017 and quickly made an impression. He captained their Under-18 side to the FA Youth Cup final last season, showcasing his potential and leadership qualities.

While Ibrahim never fully broke through with Arsenal‘s senior team, manager Mikel Arteta did recognise his talent, giving him two substitute appearances in the Europa League group stage. However, eager for regular playing time and a clearer path to professional football, he ultimately decided a move to Germany was the best step in his career.
