Bayern Munich’s Champions League dreams are under threat as injuries to key players disrupt their preparations for the decisive second-leg quarterfinal against Arsenal.
Wingers Kingsley Coman and Serge Gnabry are confirmed out, while Leroy Sané is battling to be fit in time for the match. It should be noted, however, that Sané was also reportedly ‘battling to be fit’ ahead of the first leg, in which he played.
Bayern Munich star Leroy Sané is racing against time to be fit for the crucial Champions League quarterfinal second leg against Arsenal on Wednesday. The winger missed Bayern’s weekend win over 1. FC Köln due to injury, raising doubts about his availability for the game against Arsenal.
Bayern manager Thomas Tuchel remains hopeful, stating, “We’ll try to prepare him with treatments and medication. We’ll do everything we can to make sure he can play on Wednesday.”
Sané himself expressed optimism about his chances, telling Bild, “I hope so. It should work out!” He has already begun light training and individual exercises.
Kingsley Coman will definitely miss the Arsenal fixture after suffering an injury against Köln. The club confirmed he will be sidelined for “several weeks.”
Coman’s latest injury is particularly concerning for the Germans. The injury-prone French international suffered a thigh injury during the match against Köln, adding to his lengthy absence record this season. There are concerns this latest issue may even impact his chances at Euro 2024.
Gnabry, also battling a muscle problem, joins Coman on Bayern’s injured list. Their absence leaves coach Tuchel scrambling to reorganise his attack.
Tuchel summed up the situation: “Two [Sané and Neuer] will hopefully be back and two seemingly definitely out.”
Bayern released a statement confirming Coman’s absence: “Kingsley Coman will be out of action for FC Bayern for several weeks after the forward suffered an injury in his right adductor muscle.”
