Arsenal are reportedly keen to reward Leandro Trossard‘s form with a new contract.

According to FootballTransfers, the club intends to open negotiations with the Belgian forward in the near future.

Since joining Arsenal from Brighton in January 2023, Trossard has proven a much more valuable asset than Mykhaylo Mudryk, who Arsenal initially tried to sign for nearly three times Trossard’s price. Despite not always securing a starting position, he delivers. Just this season, Trossard has 13 goals, and two assists while Mudryk has a total of six goals since he joined Chelsea.

And it’s not just that Trossard scores, he scores important goals. In the Champions League, Trossard scored Arsenal’s second to secure victory over Sevilla, scored against Porto to enable Arsenal to make it to penalties, and scored the equaliser against Bayern Munich. In the Premier League, he scored the only goal against Everton, an 84th minute equaliser against Chelsea to save a point, and a 90th minute goal against Liverpool to ease Gooner nerves.

Arsenal aim to extend Trossard’s current contract, set to expire in 2026, by at least an additional year. They also plan to offer a salary increase to reward him as they do the more senior players in the squad.

Trossard is currently reported to earn around £90,000-per-week, a hefty sum, for sure, but considerably less than the likes of Gabriel Martinelli, who is on double that.

Fortunately for Arsenal, Trossard seems equally eager to stay, and why shouldn’t he? He seems to be really enjoying his football and the Arsenal fans adore him.

In total for Arsenal, the winger, who is valued at €38m (Arsenal paid €24m for him), has scored 14 goals, with 12 assists in 60 games. Looking at just his minutes played, that works out at a goal or assist every 108 minutes.

That’s impressive by anyone’s standards, let alone for a footballer who gets most of his minutes from the bench. Of his 60 appearances in an Arsenal shirt, just under half (29) have been starts.
