The North London Derby is always a fiery affair, but this year’s clash on April 28th holds a special significance for Arsenal fans.

With the Gunners firmly in the title race and Tottenham floundering in their wake, there’s a tantalising possibility that victory over our rivals could coincide with the sweetest of celebrations – St. Totteringham’s Day.

For those unfamiliar, St. Totteringham’s Day is the glorious moment when it becomes mathematically impossible for Tottenham Hotspur to finish above Arsenal in the Premier League. It’s a day Gooners have enjoyed for decades, a testament to our consistent dominance in the rivalry.

This season, the prospect of clinching St. Totteringham’s Day on the very same day we face Spurs is an hilarious cherry on what could be a title-winning cake*. Imagine the scenes: the Tottenham stadium silent but for a few thousand Arsenal fans, the joy of beating our bitter rivals amplified by the knowledge that we’ve once again left them in our dust.

The numbers paint a compelling picture. Arsenal’s current form is formidable, while Spurs are, well, Spurs. If we continue our winning ways, that derby day clash could be more than just three points – it could be the coronation for our title charge and a humiliating blow for Tottenham.

Assuming both sides win all their games between now and then, Arsenal will just need to stop Spurs from winning to claim St Totteringham’s Day. They can only collect 81 points this season, Arsenal already have 71, and the Gunners have three games before travelling up the road to Spurs (Aston Villa, Wolves, Chelsea). Should Spurs win their next four games before they face Arsenal, they would have 69 points.

Of course, we’re not counting our chickens before they hatch and Arsenal have bigger targets in sight than just laughing at Tottenham. The derby is also notoriously unpredictable, and Spurs will be desperate to spoil our Premier League party so they can release a DVD.

But, with the confidence surging through Mikel Arteta‘s squad, there’s a real sense that this could be a season to remember.

The possibility of a North London Derby victory, a St. Totteringham’s Day celebration on their turf, and a major step towards the Premier League title?

How about following that up – again – by winning the title at Old Trafford just two weeks later.

It’s the stuff Arsenal dreams are made of.

*I have no idea if Arsenal will win the Premier League this season. They might, they might not. This is all just a bit of fun, which is what football is supposed to be about. Arsenal will definitely win it next season, though! You can put your money on that –
