Talented young midfielder Charlie Patino’s future at Arsenal appears to be over with reports suggesting he’ll leave as a free agent this summer and others saying he has a year still left.

This news has caught the attention of Juventus, who have a history of snapping up young, free players and they have been watching Patino for a while.

Reports from the Evening Standard suggest that highly-rated young midfielder Charlie Patino will leave Arsenal on a free transfer this summer after his contract expires. Juventus, always on the lookout for promising young talent, have been interested in the Englishman for some time and believe this is their chance.

The BBC and Daily Mail, however, believe his contract runs until 2025.

Patino impressed in Arsenal‘s youth setup, but a loan spell with Swansea City in the Championship this season hasn’t seen him become a regular starter with just 13 starts (none since January) and 18 substitute appearances. He has certainly struggled more than he did the season before with Blackpool. This lack of ability to force himself into the starting lineup likely played a role in Arsenal‘s decision not to renew his contract.

While Patino has shown glimpses of his potential with four goals and four assists for Swansea, he has witnessed his influence and minutes wane over the course of 2024. He’s played just 32 minutes in the last eight games, not making it off the bench in three of those, all of which Swansea lost. But when you look at the start of the season for Swansea, it was a very different story, and when Patino started, they often won (7 wins, 2 draws, 4 defeats from his starts).

Juventus are known for their ability to sign promising young players, often on free transfers. If they believe Patino has the potential to develop – and he does – he could be the next in a line of shrewd signings, strengthening their midfield for the future.

Patino’s availability as a free agent presents a low-risk, potentially high-reward opportunity for Juventus. If they can convince the young Englishman that they have a plan for his development, they could secure another valuable player without the need for a hefty transfer fee.

Patino undoubtedly possesses talent, but his limited playing time at Swansea calls into question whether he’s quite ready for a move to a top European club like Juventus. Arsenal certainly don’t think he is ready to them and that is a shame.
