Reiss Nelson looks likely to leave Arsenal this summer following significant interest in his services last year, according to a report.

Charles Watts reported in his Daily Briefing that Arsenal’s Reiss Nelson was very close to leaving the club last summer, with Brighton and Hove Albion and AC Milan showing significant interest in his signature.

Milan’s offer was reportedly particularly appealing to Nelson, and many at Arsenal believed he would make that move.

It was only Nelson’s love for the club and Arsenal’s desire not to lose him on a free transfer that ultimately saw him extending his contract instead of leaving.

Watts wrote that Premier League clubs are still interested in Nelson, and he believes the Gunners will sell if they get a good offer this summer.

You’d imagine Nelson might be even more open to a departure this time around, given his limited minutes for Mikel Arteta’s side since last year’s decision to stay.

The winger has made 24 appearances, but only five of those were starts, and only one of those was a start in the Premier League.

Now 24 years old, Nelson has one goal and three assists in his 731 minutes on the pitch in 2023/24.

There’s no issue with the player’s fitness, as evidenced by the fact he is just one of three Arsenal players to appear in every single Premier League, Champions League, League Cup, and FA Cup squad this season.

The only game Nelson did miss was the Community Shield clash with Manchester City back in August, but he’s been consistently available since then.

It’s just hard to break in ahead of Gabriel Martinelli, Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Jesus, and Leandro Trossard.

Nelson is currently valued at around €15m but with teh English premium and a contract that runs until 2027, with an option for an additional year, Arsenal will be hoping to get closer to €25m for him.
