Bayer Leverkusen went 10 points clear of Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga over the weekend, but Granit Xhaka is taking lessons from his last season with Arsenal.

By all accounts, last weekend was another positive one for Bayer Leverkusen and former Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka.

Bayern Munich slipped to a draw away to Freiburg on Friday night, handing an opportunity to title rivals Bayer Leverkusen, and it was a chance Xabi Alonso’s side took with a 2-0 win over FC Koln.

Xhaka was once again pivotal in the win, making 28 final-third entries against Koln. WhoScored report that no player has made more in a Bundesliga match this season.

The win put Leverkusen 10 points clear of Bayern with 10 games remaining, but Xhaka isn’t getting carried away. The former Gunner says he’s taking lessons from last season’s title race with Arsenal.

“We can be proud of [the 10-point lead],” Xhaka began. “But nothing is won yet. I’m speaking about my own experience, what I had last season.

“I think we were similar points over second and we didn’t win the league.

“I know the experience, this is what I share in the dressing room as well. Of course, 10 points is a lot in football, when you have 10 games left.

“[But] another 30 points you can take, it’s not over.”

Arsenal fans will hope to see their own team making a title charge before the end of 2023/24, but it would be nice to see Xhaka lifting the Bundesliga title as well.

Not least when ex-Spurs stars Harry Kane and Eric Dier are lining up for Bayern at the moment.
