Arsenal’s Kieran Tierney made his first start for Real Sociedad in over a month this weekend, having recovered from a muscle injury.
When Real Sociedad lined up against Sevilla on Saturday, they were welcoming Kieran Tierney back into the side for the first time since January 20th.
Tierney had made a brief substitute appearance earlier in the week against RCD Mallorca, coming on in extra time, but this was his first chance to be involved from the off since his muscle injury.
At the time, Real Sociedad confirmed an injury to the left-back’s left thigh, with suggestions that he could be out for one or two months.
But the Arsenal loanee ended up making his comeback just before the end of February, and he’s evidently now fit to make the starting lineup again.
Tierney’s return hasn’t gone quite to plan so far, with Real Sociedad losing on penalties against Mallorca and falling to a 3-2 defeat to Sevilla.
But focusing on Tierney’s fitness, the left-back will be pleased to have completed 84 minutes of the Sevilla clash.
The season is far from over, and Tierney’s return to action has come at a good time. Real Sociedad face Paris Saint-Germain in the second leg of their last-16 Champions League tie next, aiming to overturn a 2-0 deficit at home.
Now that Tierney is ready for starts again, he’ll hope to play a significant role in that Champions League tie and Real Sociedad’s final 11 games of the league campaign.
Tierney has made 19 appearances for Real Sociedad so far this season, playing 1,128 minutes.
