Thomas Partey could start against Sheffield United on Monday night, but it looks like Arsenal’s other injured stars aren’t yet set for a comeback.

Simon Collings reports for The Standard that Declan Rice and Thomas Partey are both set to start in midfield against Sheffield United, with the Ghana international returning from injury over the past couple of weeks.

At the very least, Partey is expected to be in the squad for the match, with Mikel Arteta discussing the prospect of pairing the midfielder with Rice in his pre-match press conference.

“I will have to see that chemistry on the pitch, and those qualities, and the things we have to treat around to make sure they play to their strengths and make each other better,” Arteta said.

“But I think that will be a very powerful midfield.

“I think they only played in the Community Shield together in midfield.”

Elsewhere, the injury news doesn’t look so good for Arsenal. Whilst reports earlier in the week hinted that Oleksandr Zinchenko and Takehiro Tomiyasu could be set to return against Sheffield United, neither could be seen in Arsenal’s final training sessions.

It looks like both players will need a bit longer to make their comebacks.

As for Jurrien Timber, the summer signing was in training with Arsenal on Sunday, but his return is going to be a slow, step-by-step process, and it’s very unlikely he’ll be rushed back into the squad in the next few games.

The good news is that there aren’t any other injuries to worry about.

If those four players all return to the squad by the end of March, Arsenal’s injury problems would have completely cleared up by April.

Of course, there are still a few games and an international break between now and then, so you wouldn’t rule out any new injuries in the coming weeks.
