William Saliba is hoping to put the woes of last season to bed by winning trophies with Arsenal between now and May.
In an interview with Pro Direct Soccer France released today but seemingly recorded earlier this year, William Saliba discussed wanting to put right how last season ended by winning trophies with Arsenal in 2023/24.
“It’s clear that after my good season last year, it ended a little badly with my injury,” Saliba said. “This year, for the moment, there are no glitches.
“There are a lot of matches (still to play). I hope we will win several titles.
“It’s good to be good, but it’s the titles that count. I won the Community Shield. It’s a title, we’re not going to spit on it. It’s a trophy.
“But we want more, we want bigger trophies.”
Arsenal won’t be lifting either of the domestic cups this season, with Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool already claiming the League Cup and the Gunners having been eliminated from the FA Cup.
But Mikel Arteta’s side are still fighting for the two biggest trophies an English team can win, the Premier League and the Champions League.
In the Premier League, Arsenal have the chance to go top of the table with a win over Brentford on Saturday, albeit that Liverpool or Manchester City (but not both) would then have the chance to take back top spot when the two clubs face each other on Sunday.
As for the Champions League, Arsenal need a couple of goals against FC Porto next week to reach the quarter-finals, having lost the away leg 1-0. But with the Gunners’ scoring form of late, you wouldn’t rule that out.
As Saliba points out, he already has his first titles with Arsenal with the Community Shield successes. But he has the chance to add another trophy or two to the count before the campaign is over.
