Charles Sagoe Jr.’s loan to Swansea City is getting off to a very slow start, with the 19-year-old hardly having featured at all for the side.

Arsenal’s Charlie Patino has been on loan with Swansea City for the entire campaign so far, making 30 appearances in all competitions, and he was joined by fellow academy youngster Charles Sagoe Jr. in the January transfer window.

For Sagoe Jr., this was a chance for a first proper taste of senior football, excluding his debut appearance for Arsenal in the League Cup in September.

But over a month into his Swansea City loan, Sagoe Jr. has still played more minutes for Arsenal’s first team (68 minutes) than Swansea’s (25 minutes) this season.

Things initially looked good for Sagoe Jr., as he came on as a substitute against Plymouth Argyle just two days after completing his loan move.

Though the forward didn’t appear in the following game against Hull City, he made another substitute appearance a few days later against Leeds United.

But after that, Sagoe Jr. dropped to the bench for a couple of games, then fell out of the squad completely.

There haven’t been any suggestions of an injury to the teenager, he just isn’t being selected at the moment.

Things are only going marginally better for Patino, who has played a total of 79 minutes across six substitute appearances in that same seven-game run since Sagoe Jr.’s arrival.

Neither of the Arsenal loanees are getting the minutes they’d want at the moment, with Swansea languishing in mid-table, and they’ll be looking to change that situation over the coming months.
