Arsenal’s Declan Rice has denied that the Gunners need to sign a striker, insisting their recent goal glut is proof of that.

Arsenal have been heavily linked with a move for a striker throughout the last few months, with the Gunners expected to make a move for a centre-forward in the summer.

But the last couple of months have left many wondering why signing a goalscorer is such a priority, with Mikel Arteta’s side going on a record-breaking run of goals.

No Premier League side has ever scored as many goals in a seven-game streak as Arsenal have since the winter break, with the Gunners netting 31 times.

Declan Rice certainly seemed convinced that the team have solved their goalscoring issues lately.

“I think there was a narrative that we weren’t creating chances, that we needed a No. 9, but in all honesty we have been playing like this all year,” Rice said.

“All season we have been playing really well.

“The goals weren’t as free flowing as they are now, but that was never a problem that we needed a No9, because we have got Gabi [Jesus], we have got Kai [Havertz], we have got Eddie [Nketiah] and we have got Leo [Trossard], who can play as a false nine.

“Goals are going to come, so I don’t think that has ever been a big problem. I think now we are really in our groove and we are looking really threatening in front of goal.”

On an individual level, Rice is playing his part in Arsenal’s goal tally, providing 10 direct goal contributions (five goals, five assists) in his 27 Premier League matches this season.

If Arsenal can keep scoring this freely for the remainder of the campaign, perhaps the summer conversations will indeed shift away from the centre-forward position.
