Aaron Ramsdale will leave Arsenal this summer, according to a report, but the Gunners may struggle to get what they want for his sale.
Charles Watts reports in his Daily Briefing that he’s ‘certain’ Aaron Ramsdale will leave Arsenal this summer, with the Gunners fully intending to bring in David Raya barring any major injury misfortune.
Watts writes that Arsenal will want ‘big money’ for Ramsdale, but that may be difficult to achieve with the threat of profit and sustainability regulations hanging over a lot of Premier League clubs.
On top of that, Watts points out that Arsenal’s negotiating position won’t be very strong, given everyone knows the club are open to a sale.
As it stands, there’s no clear indication of which clubs will be in the race for the goalkeeper.
Though it’s true that it’s no secret that Ramsdale is second choice at Arsenal right now, it’s worth pointing out that the goalkeeper does still have a contract until 2026, with an option to extend to 2027.
If the Gunners don’t get the bids they want, they could reasonably decide to keep Ramsdale around instead.
Whether that will actually happen remains to be seen, but at the very least it’s something Arsenal can use in negotiations.
Ramsdale has made 11 appearances this season, keeping three clean sheets and helping the team to seven wins.
The goalkeeper would surely have liked to play a bit more, and he’ll be disappointed that Arsenal exited the domestic cup competitions so early.
That was definitely his opportunity to rack up some minutes, but the Gunners were eliminated in the third and fourth round of the FA Cup and League Cup respectively.
From now until the end of the season, Ramsdale can only wait and be prepared for an opportunity if anything happens to rule Raya out for a game or more.
