David Ornstein reports that the links between Arsenal and Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi have substance, with other sources confirming the midfielder is a target.
The Athletic’s David Ornstein reports that the long-term links between Arsenal and Martin Zubimendi have substance, with the Gunners considering a midfield signing this summer.
Ornstein reports that the exact profile of an incoming midfielder may be determined by outgoings, as the players that leave may alter whether Arsenal need a No. 6 or a No. 8.
But Ornstein isn’t the only one suggesting Zubimendi is on Arsenal’s radar ahead of the summer window.
Sami Mokbel writes for the Daily Mail that Arsenal will look to sign a central midfielder in the summer, and Zubimendi is among the club’s targets.
Fabrizio Romano has also recently reported that the Gunners want a midfielder, claiming the club appreciate Zubimendi and Mikel Arteta is a “big fan” of the player.
Romano confirms that the midfielder will still have a €60m (£51.4m) release clause in his deal in the upcoming window, though Bayern Munich are waiting to provide competition.
Christian Falk of BILD reported that Zubimendi is Bayern’s top target for a summer transfer, but they’ve heard that Arteta is already talking to the player.
Bayern were reportedly very sure they’d lead the race for Zubimendi this summer, but they’re now afraid of Arsenal hijacking the transfer.
Zubimendi was never likely to move in the January transfer window, as he was keen to see out the season with Real Sociedad. Things might be different this summer.
