Arsenal have drawn Bayern Munich in the next round of the Champions League, with the Gunners set to host the Bundesliga side on April 9th/10th, before travelling to the Allianz Arena on April 16th/17th.

Bayern’s Thomas Muller posted his reaction to the draw immediately after it was made, sending a message to Arsenal’s Kai Havertz.

“And it’s Arsenal,” Muller said. “Kai Havertz, my friend, I am waiting for you.

“No, it’s a nice draw, two very good teams, two very good stadiums, two very good cities.

“It will be tough, but I’m always positive. See you, Gunners!”

Muller has played plenty of games against Arsenal in the past, with Bayern facing the Gunners in the Champions League in 2012/13, 2013/14, 2015/16, and 2016/17.

Muller played in seven of those eight games, with Bayern winning four, drawing one, and losing two. But despite the two defeats, the German side always came out on top and progressed to the next round.

One difference this time is that the two teams are meeting at the quarter-final stage, with three of the four previous meetings happening at the last-16 stage and the fourth in the group stages.

The stakes are higher this time, and we’ll see which of the two teams that benefits.

The other difference is that it’s been seven years since the last time the two teams met.

This isn’t an Arsene Wenger team anymore, it’s Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal. This isn’t an Arsenal side fighting for top four (ultimately finishing fifth), it’s a team in the title race.

On Bayern’s end, this is the first time since 2011/12 that they might miss out on the Bundesliga title, with Bayer Leverkusen leading the league by 10 points with nine games left.

If Arsenal want revenge for their previous Champions League eliminations, this is the time to try and take it.
