Ederson is a major doubt to start Manchester City’s match against Arsenal later this month, after suffering a thigh injury against Liverpool.
Manchester City’s Ederson did not have a good day as his team took on Liverpool on Sunday, with the goalkeeper conceding a rash penalty before going off injured.
Things have only got worse for the Brazil international since then, with assessments on his injury confirming a few weeks on the sidelines.
Jack Gaughan of the Daily Mail reports that Ederson is set for three-to-four weeks out with a thigh injury, listing the goalkeeper as a “major doubt” for Manchester City’s match against Arsenal.
Arsenal’s match at the Etihad Stadium is already less than three weeks away, so even if Ederson only needs three weeks to recover, he’d still miss the game.
The only chance he has of featuring in the top-of-the-table clash is if he returns ahead of schedule, which you’d never rule out when it comes to Manchester City.
But it seems the goalkeeper is likely to be replaced by Stefan Ortega against Arsenal.
Yet any Manchester City fan cursing their luck needs to gain some perspective on the situation.
Pep Guardiola’s side have just two injuries right now, even including Ederson, with Jack Grealish the only other player sidelined ahead of their FA Cup match against Newcastle United this weekend.
Both players could yet return before the Arsenal match, which would give the club an entirely clean bill of health.
There’s incredibly little to complain about on the injury front from City’s end.
