Kai Havertz won the Player of the Match award for his performance against Brentford on Saturday, and Mikel Arteta praised his turnaround after the game.
Arsenal’s Kai Havertz is in excellent form at the moment, and that was exemplified as the 24-year-old scored the winner against Brentford on Saturday.
Havertz ended up picking up the Player of the Match award after his sixth direct goal contribution in four games, and he seemed delighted afterwards.
“As a kid, I think you dream that you’re going to have moments like this in your career and today I had something like this,” Havertz said.
“[The supporters] made it very special to me and I’m very thankful to have this moment. Thank you to all of them.”
On his goalscoring form of late, Havertz refused to get carried away.
“I’m happy but I always want to become better and better,” Havertz added.
“I know football always goes up and down and one week you’re the hero and the next week not, so I just try to work hard and keep the momentum going to help the team.”
But Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta was happy to sing the German international’s praises, highlighting how the summer signing has turned things around for himself.
“If somebody told me after the first two or three months that the whole stadium would be singing his song with that passion I would have found it hard to believe,” Arteta said.
“That’s what happens to good people.”
Arteta and Havertz face another huge game in a couple of days, with the Gunners welcoming FC Porto to the Emirates Stadium for their Champions League last-16 second leg.
