On Monday afternoon, Brazil boss Dorival Junior confirmed that Gabriel Magalhaes had pulled out of the squad for the March international break.

“Unfortunately, we had another problem with a player,” Dorival said. “Gabriel Magalhaes is out of these initial matches, so in his place, we are calling up Bremer from Juventus in Italy.”

Fabrizio Romano reports that the decision was taken due to an injury to the Arsenal defender.

Sami Mokbel reports that the injury isn’t serious, and the decision to withdraw him is more of a precaution. The problem is genuine, but not too bad.

Gabriel had gone down with an injury during Arsenal’s Champions League win over Porto, receiving treatment on the field in the 74th minute.

The centre-back got up to complete the match, playing another 46 minutes of football, but perhaps he never fully shook off the problem.

Arsenal fans will hope that’s all it is, and there hasn’t been a fresh injury for the defender. The Gunners face Manchester City away from home in a key Premier League clash next on March 31st.

The good news is that Gabriel will now have some time to recover over the international break.

Rather strangely, Arsenal now have no players in the Brazil squad, with Gabriel Martinelli also pulling out through injury and Gabriel Jesus seemingly not selected due to the effect his own injury problems have had on his minutes.
