Mika Biereth has made the ideal start to his loan spell with Austrian side Sturm Graz and that continued with an excellent performance against Wolfsberger AC on Sunday.

Sturm initially struggled to break Wolfsberger down, but Biereth helped to make the difference midway through the second half.

In the 66th minute, Biereth picked up the ball and turned to run at the Wolfsberger defence. The striker played a pass out to the left-hand side, where Alexander Prass was waiting to put a cross in.

The ball into the box was perfect for Biereth to attack, and he headed a shot down beneath the goalkeeper for 1-0.

Biereth didn’t rest on his laurels, and a few minutes later he charged down a Wolfsberger defender to turn over possession to teammate Jusuf Gazibegovic.

Gazibegovic returned the ball to Biereth on the overlap, and the Arsenal forward sent in a low cross that Manprit Sarkaria was on hand to convert for 2-0.

Biereth almost helped his team to a third goal, initially winning a penalty. But a video review of the incident showed the goalkeeper had got a touch on the ball before taking Biereth out, and the penalty was cancelled.

All the same, it was job done for the Arsenal loanee, and the match finished 4-0.

Sturm Graz remain in the hunt for the Austrian Bundesliga title, just two points off league leaders RB Salzburg.

From an individual point of view, Biereth now has five goals and an assist in seven games for Sturm.

Across the whole season, including his time with Motherwell, Biereth has 11 goals and six assists in 22 games (18 starts).

For just his second season in senior football, the 21-year-old is performing excellently, especially considering his first season was heavily disrupted by injury. Long may this good form continue.
