Arsenal loanee Mika Biereth believes Gabriel Martinelli is the best player he’s trained with, but suggests Gabriel Magalhaes is one of the toughest to train against.

Arsenal striker Mika Biereth is currently on loan with Sturm Graz, but the 21-year-old has spent his fair share of time in training with the Gunners first team over the last couple of years.

Biereth even spent time in training with Arsenal back in January, before the decision to recall him from Motherwell and send him out to Sturm Graz.

All that experience with Mikel Arteta’s squad has given the young centre-forward some stories to tell.

“The more you train with the first-team, the more used to it you get and those kinds of training sessions put me in good stead for playing with the 21s and then out on my loans,” Biereth told the i newspaper this week.

“One of the first sessions I was over there I was trying to hold the ball up and big Gabi [Magalhaes] just clattered through the back of me. It felt like a car crash!

“He is massive and I would have only been 18 at the time. Just things like that, the speed and the physicality of it [helped].

“It is a simple game but just [learning] how much goes into it and how much detail there is, I learned all of that at Arsenal.”

As for which player impressed the most in training, Biereth picked out Gabriel Martinelli.

“He’s just so quick and so sharp with everything that he does,” Biereth explained.

Biereth noted that he’d also received a lot of help from Rob Holding, Kieran Tierney, and Aaron Ramsdale, which is nice to hear.

None of the trio are in vogue at Arsenal at the moment, with Holding joining Crystal Palace, Tierney moving on loan to Real Sociedad, and Ramsdale largely relegated to the bench.

But it’s important to remember the impact they’ve all had off the field, as well as on it.
