Mikel Arteta believes Kai Havertz has shaken off the question marks around his signing for Arsenal and he’s given the team a new dimension.

Kai Havertz is in excellent form for Arsenal at the moment, despite receiving some criticism earlier in the campaign.

Mikel Arteta told his pre-Brentford press conference that he thinks the German international deserves praise for getting himself going with his new club.

“It shows his character as well and how he has dealt with all those question marks,” Arteta said.

“The attitude he showed all the time when things were not that good in certain phases of the game, but he continued to work hard and that’s why he’s loved by everybody here.

“And then we can see his quality and intelligence on the pitch and the contribution he’s having to the team, so we’re very happy with him.”

In terms of what Havertz adds to Arsenal’s attack, Arteta had plenty to say.

“His ability to occupy a space (is key) as well as in transition moments to exploit them,” Arteta continued. “The aggression that he has in high presses is really, really good.

“He has the physical qualities to play very different kinds of games and that’s an attribute that we felt was going to be very positive for us.”

Arsenal legend Freddie Ljungberg also recently praised Havertz, saying on Monday: “He played well. He is important for Arsenal – I think he has a great left foot.

“I don’t care what people say, is Havertz a success or not a success. His technical ability is great.

“When he is calm like this (going through on goal against Sheffield United), he just buries them. He hits it cleanly, calmly and it was a great goal.”

Havertz has three goals and two assists in his last three Premier League appearances, and he’s now hit double figures for direct goal contributions for Arsenal.

The 24-year-old brought his goal and assist tally to 11 on Monday night, and on current form he’ll add a lot more before the end of the campaign.

If that helps the team to more 5-0 and 6-0 results, even better.
