Arsenal defender Ben White has been carrying a knee injury for most of the 2023/24 campaign so far, according to a report.
Arsenal’s Ben White has been in the headlines a lot over the last week, having signed a new contract with the club whilst opting not to play for England over the upcoming international break.
The exact reasoning behind White’s decision hasn’t been made public, with various sources speculating as to why he might not want to play for England. But one contributing factor could be an injury problem he’s been carrying this season.
The Athletic report that White has been carrying a knee problem for much of the campaign.
White isn’t the kind of player to feign an injury unnecessarily. In fact, The Standard recently reported that he has been known to mask injuries in training so he can play at the weekend.
Rob Holding had previously revealed that White will play on even through real discomfort.
“Who’s the best for that, in terms of having real discomfort and injuries and just cracking on? Ben White,” Holding said. “I don’t know how he does it.
“You know when we played Newcastle away, the Amazon year (2021/22)? He would’ve had a grade two, grade three [injury], easily. His hamstring was shot to hell. And he went out there and played.
“He’s a mentality monster, mate. I don’t know how he does it.
“He’ll have so much pain, but he’ll just trigger into game mode and play.”
At the moment, it doesn’t seem like White is having too much trouble on the fitness front. But perhaps his ability to get through so much of the season has been aided by the fact he hasn’t had to play internationals.
White has made 39 appearances for Arsenal so far this season, a tally he surely would have struggled to reach with a knee injury and internationals every other month.
There’s no doubt the 26-year-old gives his all for his club, and the fans love him for it.
