Arsenal are reportedly at the forefront of a battle to sign red-hot striker Viktor Gyokeres.

The Swedish forward has been tearing up the Portuguese league with Sporting CP, and his €100 million release clause hasn’t deterred the Gunners from expressing their interest.

According to the most recent reports, Arsenal are reportedly the frontrunners to sign striker Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting CP.

Gyokeres has been on fire this season, scoring 36 goals and assisting 14 in 39 games. On a per-minute basis, that’s a goal or assist every 64 minutes. According to the Portuguese newspaper Correio da Manhã, Arsenal are willing to meet his €100 million release clause, a hefty price tag but potentially justified considering his performances this season.

At the end of February, it was reported that Arsenal were monitoring the Swedish Gyokeres as they had concerns over Gabriel Jesus‘s long-term fitness due to his knee problems.

Currently valued at €55m, Gyokeres is under contract until 2028 after signing a five-year deal when he signed for Sporting CP in the summer for €21m from Coventry City.

When in England, Gyokeres also spent time with Brighton and Swansea. Playing a total of 136 games for all three, he scored 45 goals, with 18 assists. Most of those came during his 116 appearances for Coventry, where he scored 43 and assisted 17.

This move would be a major investment for Arsenal, and they face competition from other clubs for the 25-year-old’s signature.
