After Arsenal’s 6-0 win over Sheffield United, it was only appropriate that six players made it into the various Teams of the Week.

Arsenal thrashed Sheffield United 6-0 away from home on Monday night to break a number of records, including becoming the first side in English football to win three consecutive away games by five or more goals.

The Gunners also broke the Premier League record for the most goals ever scored in a seven-game streak, as they brought their tally to 31.

Manchester City were the previous holders of the record, having scored 28 goals in seven games in 2017/18.

With five different goalscorers (and one own-goal scorer) and a clean sheet at the back, there were plenty of options to choose from for the BBC, Premier League, and WhoScored Teams of the Week.

The BBC’s Garth Crooks was the least generous with his Arsenal picks, only selecting Martin Odegaard.

Crooks wrote that “Arsenal were brutal” and it “was a walk in the park for the visitors” admitting that he “could have selected anyone in an Arsenal shirt” for his team.

But the pundit concluded that “the star of the show was Odegaard and that’s why he’s in my team”.

Alan Shearer also selected Odegaard for his Team of the Week for the Premier League website, and he picked Ben White as well.

On Odegaard, Shearer praised “a captain’s performance”, claiming the Norwegian “set the tone with his early opener and kept Arsenal pushing for more and more goals in that first half”.

As for White, Shearer wrote that he’d selected the England international for “another goal and another top performance from the defender”.

Perhaps Shearer and Crooks are simply tired of including Arsenal players in their teams. By contrast, the WhoScored Team of the Week is purely based on statistics, so it was no surprise to see Mikel Arteta’s players dominating the side.

Kai Havertz, Gabriel Martinelli, Declan Rice, Ben White, and Jakub Kiwior all made it into the team, with Sam Hammond explaining each entrant.

White was included for his goal, interception, two ball recoveries and one big chance created, whilst fellow defender Kiwior made it in for his assist, two tackles, four ball recoveries and five duels won – more than anyone else on the pitch.

Rice also won his place with a goal, as well as two key passes, two tackles, and three ground duels won.

As for Martinelli and Havertz, both are unsurprising inclusions given they managed a goal and an assist each. Havertz was also praised for his four key passes, one successful dribble, and six ball recoveries.

It’s onto Brentford and another opportunity to earn three points now.
