Two Arsenal players made it into both the BBC and the WhoScored Teams of the Week after Saturday’s win over Brentford.

Arsenal managed to grind out a 2-1 victory against Brentford on Saturday, with Kai Havertz heading in the winning goal late in the match.

But it’s two of Havertz’s teammates who are earning special praise for their performances in the Teams of the Week, with the BBC’s Garth Crooks and WhoScored both selecting Ben White and Declan Rice in their respective sides.

Crooks writes that White “was on hand to play a pivotal role in Arsenal’s victory” with “two beautifully floated crosses [providing] excellent assists”.

As for Rice, the pundit praised the Arsenal midfielder for “the support he has given to their midfield and especially to Martin Odegaard”, adding that the 25-year-old will take a big chunk of the credit if his team win the Premier League.

On Rice’s performance against Brentford specifically, Crooks added that he provided a “beautifully timed run into the box and headed goal”.

WhoScored included the same two players in their Team of the Week, with Sam Hammond explaining both picks.

White was praised for his assists for both goals, as well as a tackle and three key passes, whilst Rice got credit for winning six aerial duels, making one tackle, and completing one dribble on top of his first-half goal.

There was no place for Havertz in either team, despite the forward winning the Player of the Match award and scoring the winning goal.

But the competition in forward areas was stronger than at the back this week, so perhaps that’s understandable.
