Arsenal’s search for defensive reinforcements has led them to Italy, where Fiorentina‘s young full-back Michael Kayode has consistently impressed their scouts.

With the Gunners sending representatives “several times” to assess the 19-year-old, a potential price tag has emerged.

Could Kayode, who’s already contributed a goal and two assists in his 17 Serie A appearances, be the solution to Arsenal‘s right-back needs?

Arsenal’s confirmed interest

Former Gozzano manager Carlo Caramelli sparked speculation about Arsenal’s interest in Kayode last October. “Yes, I heard it too,” Caramelli told Sportitalia. “In fact, I heard [agent Andrea] Ritorni and I said to him jokingly: ‘But which Arsenal? Mike must stay at Fiorentina.”

Caramelli’s comments confirm that Arsenal’s scouting missions are serious. While he urged the player to remain focused on Fiorentina, it hints at an ongoing conversation surrounding Kayode’s future.

Michael Kayode, who holds dual Italian and Nigerian citizenship, began his footballing journey with Juventus as a youngster before moving to Borgomanero, Italy. After three successful years with Gozzano, where Caramelli oversaw his development, Kayode made the leap to Fiorentina.

His impressive performances for Fiorentina’s youth team paved the way for his promotion to the first team this season. His debut season has been promising, with a goal and two assists in 17 Serie A matches highlighting his ability to contribute offensively as well as defensively. He has another two assists in six Europa Conference League games.

Scouting reports and price tag

According to CalcioMercato, Arsenal’s scouting missions have been comprehensive. The Gunners have watched Kayode at the U18 Euros and followed his progress closely for Fiorentina. Fiorentina’s valuation of the player of between €12m and €15m.

Crucially, Fiorentina seem open to a sale if the right offer comes in, suggesting Arsenal’s interest could turn into a serious pursuit.

Potential for a summer transfer

Given Fiorentina’s willingness to negotiate, a summer transfer seems possible. Arsenal may face competition, as Caramelli had previously alluded to interest from German clubs.

However, Arsenal’s repeated scouting missions suggest a determination to bring the young defender to the Premier League.

Agent hints at player’s contentment

Despite the transfer rumours, Kayode’s agent Andrea Ritorni has downplayed the possibility of an imminent move. He reassured Fiorentina fans, stating: “Fiorentina need not worry.

“There is a contract that speaks for him: Michael is doing well with this club and in this team. Of course, various Premier teams follow him and have followed him, but this is normal, it’s part of football and life.

“However, Fiorentina has secured him with a nice contract and many bonuses let’s think about doing well now and in the future for the purple shirt.”

Ritorni’s emphasis on Michael Kayode‘s current focus suggests the player isn’t actively seeking a transfer, though he acknowledges Premier League interest.

His contract and bonuses tie him to Fiorentina for the foreseeable future (2028), potentially complicating any transfer negotiations.

Should Arsenal pursue Kayode?

The big question for Arsenal is whether Kayode is worth the investment. At 19, he has shown immense potential, but still has room for growth. His attacking prowess, with a goal and four assists across all competitions this season, aligns with Mikel Arteta’s emphasis on attack-minded full-backs.

Arsenal‘s current right-back optionsare Ben White, Takehiro Tomiyasu and Cedric Soares – so reinforcements are definitely needed. Kayode would add youth and a dynamic element.

However, the jump from Serie A to the Premier League is significant, and even if he did arrive, Arsenal would most likely need to be as patient with Kayode as they have been with Jakub Kiwior.
