Arsenal have joined the race for Aberdeen youngster Lewis Carrol, though they’ll have to compete with Chelsea for the player’s signature.
Jordan Campbell reports for The Athletic that both Arsenal and Chelsea interested in a summer move for 15-year-old centre-back Lewis Carrol of Aberdeen.
Chelsea have reportedly been tracking Carrol for a while, but Arsenal have come into the picture in recent months.
Aberdeen are also keen to keep the defender around, telling him he’ll be fast-tracked into the first team if he sticks around.
Unfortunately for Aberdeen, they only have so much control over Carrol’s future.
As the youngster is still just 15, he’s yet to sign a professional contract with his current club. Arsenal or Chelsea would only have to pay a training compensation fee to complete the signing this summer.
Campbell writes that Carrol has been compared to John Stones, due to his height and ability on the ball.
Arsenal are always on the lookout for top young players, and Carrol’s contract situation makes him a prime candidate for a summer swoop.
