Arsenal are the team pushing hardest to sign Miguel Gutierrez, but the player still favours a return to Real Madrid as it stands.

Girona 22-year-old Miguel Gutierrez is the subject of plenty of transfer speculation at the moment, with 50% of his rights still held by Real Madrid, who also have a buyback clause set at €8m (£6.9m), according to Relevo.

But Relevo journalist Rodra reports that Arsenal are pushing hard for the left-back.

Rodra told Inaki Angle TV on Sunday that the Gunners are the most interested club, and they’re making the player an attractive offer.

“The team that is going the hardest for Miguel (Gutierrez) is Arsenal,” Rodra said. “They are the one that is going the strongest, the one that is the most interested, the one that has been there for the longest.

“They offer a more tailored project, I also think they are the one with the biggest commitment in terms of salary.”

Yet it seems the player is still primarily hoping to go back to his former club Real Madrid.

“We will see what happens, [but] Miguel wants to return to Madrid,” Rodra added. “He wants the opportunity to prove himself with Madrid.

“I think Madrid will end up doing that (bringing Gutierrez back), but we will see there.”

The Athletic reported in January that Arsenal admire Miguel Gutierrez, but his complicated ownership situation made a deal unlikely mid-season.

Fabrizio Romano had previously claimed that Arsenal had indeed sent scouts to watch the defender.

Despite his €8m clause for Real Madrid, Gutierrez’s release clause for other clubs is set at €35m (£30m). He’s made 32 appearances this season for the third-place La Liga side.
