Takehiro Tomiyasu’s new contract announcement is imminent, with an agreement now in place, according to a report.
Fabrizio Romano reports that Takehiro Tomiyasu has agreed to sign a new contract with Arsenal. The agreement is in place, everything is ready, and an announcement is imminent.
Romano clarifies that the two parties still need to complete the paperwork, but he insists that Tomiyasu will be the next player to sign a new deal at Arsenal.
Tomiyasu reportedly attracted interest from clubs in Italy and elsewhere in recent months, but he was never likely to leave.
Arsenal always wanted him to stay, and a new deal is now incoming.
Tomiyasu has been away from the club for the AFC Asian Cup over the last few weeks, but Japan were eliminated by an injury-time Iran penalty on Saturday.
The 25-year-old is now free to return to Arsenal and sign a new deal.
Tomiyasu hasn’t been able to play a significant role for Arsenal over the last couple of months, with his Asian Cup absence preceded by a calf injury.
The defender suffered the injury on December 2nd, missing almost a month of action before his return on December 31st. As soon as he was fit, he was off to Qatar for the Asian Cup.
One of Arsenal’s most consistent performers this season when fit, it would be great news for the team if Tomiyasu could get a run of games under his belt after signing his new deal.
Tomiyasu’s current contract lasts until 2025, having only signed a four-year deal when joining the club in 2021. You’d expect a new contract to extend that by at least a couple of years.
