Takehiro Tomiyasu played the full 90 minutes at centre-back for Japan in their 3-1 victory over Bahrain on Wednesday, helping his nation secure a place in the quarterfinals.

Ritsu Doan opening the score in the 31st minute, followed by Takefusa Koba doubling the lead shortly after half-time. Despite a momentary scare from a Zion Suzuki own goal, Japan re-established their two-goal advantage through Ayase Ueda with 20 minutes remaining.

This victory means Japan, the tournament’s most decorated team with four titles, will now face the winner of the Iran vs. Syria match scheduled for later today.

The quarter-final clash will take place on Saturday, February 3rd, at 11.30am (BST), meaning Tomiyasu’s will not be available for the Arsenal-Liverpool the following day.
