Manchester United have confirmed a couple of injury issues for first-choice players in the last few days, with Luke Shaw and Rasmus Hojlund both ruled out of action.

United report that Shaw is set to be absent for a few months with a muscle injury, and Hojlund has also suffered a muscle injury, keeping him out for two to three weeks.

Both injuries could have knock-on effects on Arsenal, either directly or indirectly.

The direct impact comes from Shaw’s injury, which the Daily Mail report could rule him out for the rest of the season.

The Mail claim Shaw is expected to miss three months, with United scheduled to face Arsenal on May 11th, two-and-a-half months away.

But other sources appear less certain, with Fabrizio Romano claiming United expect Shaw to return just before the end of the season.

Given the Arsenal game is their penultimate fixture of the Premier League campaign, it sounds like we shouldn’t rule him out completely.

As for Hojlund, the striker should be back in action long before United host Arsenal. But United travel to Manchester City next week, in a game the centre-forward is now almost certain to miss.

Hojlund has scored seven goals in his last six Premier League games, as one of the most in-form goalscorers across the entire division.

He would have given City some cause for concern, and his absence will be privately welcomed by Pep Guardiola.

Given Arsenal are currently competing with City for a spot in the table, with just one point separating the two sides, Shaw and Hojlund’s unavailability for that fixture is a shame.
